Revision of Guidelines for Indian Government Websites

Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) were formulated in the year 2008 and launched in February 2009. Development of these guidelines involved an extensive consultation process involving representatives from various Indian Government Departments at the Centre and State levels. Established and recognized Guidelines of other countries as well as International bodies like ISO and W3C have also been referred to while drafting these guidelines.

However, since their release, there have been a lot of changes in user demands and technology trends. We are witnessing HTML5- the major revision to the core language of the World Wide Web the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). There are lot more exciting changes in Cascading Styles Sheet (CSS), JavaScript, Graphics and Animation arena. Social Media has also come a long way and it is emerging as one of the strongest medium of public opinion and participation.

In order to meet the expectations of various stakeholders and to keep pace with changing technological advancement, a need is felt to revise the relevant sections of the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW).

We have already received many suggestions through feedback section of GIGW website in the past two years. We now invite you all to send your comments and suggestions for further enhancing various sections of GIGW and help in making the Government Cyberspace more Usable, User Centric and Universally Accessible.

Please e-mail  your suggestions to webguidelines[at]nic[dot]in  (kindly mention the relevant section/guidelines of GIGW along with your suggestions).
